With the arrival of summer, snows start disappearing from the slopes of USA, Canada and Europe, which leaves the snowboarders with no other option but to head southwards. However, the powder snows of the Andes spreading across Chile and Argentina doesn't disappoint them. Snowboarding, skiing and heli-skiing opportunities are abound on these high slopes of the Andes.The best time to snowboard in southern hemisphereThe snow season in South America starts in late June and ends in mid of October. The best time and the best conditions can be availed from July to mid of September. August is the perfect month to visit Argentina or Chile. The Santa Rosa storm hits most of southern part towards the last week of August and continues till the first two weeks of September. The Chilean volcanoes can be toured during the month of September. Throughout the season, the region experiences different storms like the huge Andean powder storms.The best places to snowboard in South AmericaArgentina offers some great places for snowboarding and skiing, especially in the Lake Region and Patagonia. The Las Lenas and Bariloche are the most famous places in Argentina to practice snowboarding. Bariloche in the Patagonia region of Argentina is perhaps the best place for snowboarding.Located at the border of the Andes, San Carlos de Bariloche is surrounded by many jagged peaks and lakes. This fabulous surrounding also makes it a good place for hiking and backcountry camps. If you want to ride some trees, then Cerro Catedral, near Bariloche offers good tree skiing. Bariloche is full of cliffs, chutes, couloirs, bowls as well as pillow lines that are great ways of testing riders at different levels.Besides Bariloche, there are some other smaller places in Argentina that can also offer great chances of snowboarding and skiing. Mount Castor in Ushuaia is one such place and it experiences a longer season than any other place. Mount Bayo, located in a beautiful natural landscape is another place in Argentina that deserves a mention. Other names include Las Penitentes, Batea Mahuida resort and La Hoya that offers good snowboarding and skiing experiences.The slopes of Chilean Andes are also very popular for snowboarding and skiing. Valle Nevado, La Parva and Portillo are some of the upcoming snowboarding destinations in Chile.
